Abstract
One of the things that should be emphasized to those who are just starting out as synoptic forecasters is that the longer you've been around, the more you get a feel for forecasting for specific situations.  Empiricism plays an important role in meteorological analysis. After nearly 40-years as a broadcast meteorologist, we'll look at two "bad" forecasts . . . made very early in my career, followed by two "good" forecasts, which were came years later . . . direct results of having learned from previous mistakes!  And we'll briefly look at how the tools that an operational forecaster rely upon have changed over the last four decades.
