Abstract
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is in the process of developing a more comprehensive tornado database by combining the existing SPC “OneTor” tornado dataset with tornado damage survey information from the National Weather Service Damage Assessment Tool (DAT).  These efforts are the initial steps of combining both datasets which will allow for greater flexibility and more options in examining tornado data.  Potential application of this dataset includes but is not limited to the following: 1) development of a multi-faceted meteorological database which includes near-storm environment and radar attributes, 2) multi-disciplinary examination of factors (e.g., meteorology, geography) which influence both the meteorological assessment of intensity and the societal impact of particular tornadoes, and 3) a foundational dataset for a future tornado damage model based on near-storm environment data, radar attributes, and geospatial data.  Potential users of this database include those in the insurance industry, emergency managers, and meteorologists.
